Wadelincourt marks the start of the ultra race season 2016-2017 and as such, is the first of the Paris-Alsace-Ribeauvile 2017 qualifying races. This year it was also the Belgian National 24 hour Championship.
Centurions, Sandra Brown and Kathy Crilley made their way to Peruwelz - the nearest railway station and were met by Pauline, part of the organising committee. Friday night, the race organiser, Pascal Biebuyck, welcomed all athletes with a meal in the Maison du Village in Wadelincourt which acts as the Race HQ for the weekend.
The weather forecast of mid 30s put quite a few people off, so the start was a bit down on the entry list. The forecast lived up to its prediction... very hot.. 35 degrees Saturday afternoon with a thunderstorm and short downpour which only increased the humidity. It was not pleasant. Schedules went out of the window. But as ever, the support was tremendous.
As ever, Sandra, persevered and went on to win. For me,... well, not one of my best races.....
