George Eastwood, who celebrated his 100th birthday on St. George’s Day in 2024, passed away in January 2025.

George was an esteemed Life Member of Woodford Green with Essex Ladies AC. He qualified as Centurion 576 in 1976 when he led his club (then Woodford Green AC) to win the 100 miles team trophy at their club track. George passed 100 miles in 20:29:39 and continued to complete 115 miles and 1,706 yards in 24 hours.

On retiring from race walking, George joined Charlie Megnin C288 for regular walks and runs in Hainault Forest. He resided in Thornwood and was also a founder and former director of Loughton-based Higgins Group Construction.

He became the second “double Centurion”, after Bill Brown C12, and was congratulated on reaching the 100-year milestone by the King and Queen.
