Bob Watts C838

Bob served on the Centurion committee as Archivist and as Editor/Compiler/Printer of their 1997 Centurion Handbook.

Before distinguishing himself in race walking  he was a Long Distance Walkers’ Association active member. When he took up race walking he qualified as Centurion 838 at Leicester’s Congerstone course in 1988 clocking 21:50.20 in the colours of London Vidarians.  Bob’s notable achievement was completing 25 Roubaix 28 Hour races, for which he received a special presentation from the French Athletics Association.

Bob also competed sub-24 hours 100 miles races on both roads and tracks.

Nearer home he was one of just 6 competitors (all Centurions) to have completed 100 Blackheath 9K yacht handicap races – his final total reaching 110.

Bob devoted much of his time to The Royal British Legion. He passed away on the 28/01/2024 aged 74. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Basil was a member of Trowbridge A.C. when he qualified as Centurion 726 at the 1982 Leicester W.C. “Congerstone” 100 in 21.23.32. He passed away on 27/01/2024. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Hugo Prinsen C1007

Hugo Prinsen C 1007

A member of OLAT (Holland), Hugo completed 100 miles in 22:58:0 at Colchester 100 miles in 2004. He was also Continental Centurion 285. Hugo passed away in November 2023.

Mike Aris C914

Mike was a talented ultra-runner and ran for the GB 24 hour team at the European 24 hour championships in Basle.

Encouraged to try race-walking, Mike joined Surrey Walking Club. He was a determined athlete and became Centurion 914 in the 1993 London 100m/24hrs, in a time of 22h 22.35. He also walked for the SWC team in the Manchester to Blackpool 50 miles.

Later in life Mike took up cycling and cycled impressive distances through hilly countryside each day.

Mike passed away June 2023 and leaves a widow Brigitte. He was always good company and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
