Doug Hopkins  C 347

Chatham-based Doug Hopkins C347 died aged 81 on Monday 6th July 2020.

A member of the London Vidarians, he was 23 years old when he qualified at the 1963 Brighton-to-London-and-Back and completed 100 miles in 22:24.10.

Doug raced for London Vidarians then Medway AC, which in 2001 was part of a merger that led to Medway & Maidstone AC appearing on our scene.  After he hung up his racing shoes Doug put much back into our sport by qualifying as a Judge, accepting many appointments and supporting Kent County AA fixtures for decades.  He continued judging until he was 80.   We’ll miss Doug and we thank him for his commitment to our sport.
